Refraction is the bending of light as it passes from one medium to another with a different density, due to a change in light speed. This phenomenon, described by Snell's Law, alters the appearance of objects when observed through different media. For example, a straw in a glass of water appears bent or displaced at the water's surface because light rays change direction as they move from water (higher refractive index) to air (lower refractive index).
