🥵 #TodayInHistory: #OnThisDay in 1967, the first successful train of air-conditioned subway cars began service in the #NYCsubway system. The train was composed of ten R38 cars equipped with Stone Safety Air Conditioning systems and ran on the F line. The successful A/C experiment led Mayor John Lindsay to authorize the purchase of 600 more air-conditioned subway cars for the IND and BMT lines.
