Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care is committed to community outreach and education. This commitment takes us to many of the communities around Tahoe. Last weekend we had the opportunity to table at Schaffer’s Mill’s fall fest. This family centered event was a wonderful opportunity to connect with our neighbors on the north shore. State wildlife officials used specially trained dogs to collect scat samples in Lassen Volcanic National Park and the nearby Caribou Wilderness in a survey of the rare Sierra Nevada red fox. Crews gathered 240 samples over 10 days, with about 85 believed to come from the elusive high-elevation fox.
