Goodfellas features a memorable scene where Henry (Ray Liotta) and the crew take a detour on the way to bury a mobster to visit Tommy’s (Joe Pesci’s) mother. In typical Italian fashion, Tommy’s mother offers the boys plenty of good food and even better company. This scene was heavily improvised, and features Martin Scorsese’s own mother Catherine Scorsese who (alongside side De Niro’s “Hoof”) steals the show. | Industria

This iconic dinner scene in Goodfellas was almost completely improvised. Scorsese cast his own mother, Catherine Scorsese, to play the mother and gave her just one direction: “Act motherly.” Her natural performance and authentic Italian-American presence bring warmth and humor, making the family moments feel incredibly real. Goodfellas is a masterpiece of storytelling, blending the intensity of mob life with rich, lived-in details like this. Scenes like this show Scorsese’s genius for capturing
