This weekend we will consider the story of Jean Valjean, once a criminal, but transformed by the kindness of a Bishop into a man who chose to live by God’s grace, choosing to embody kindness and generosity himself. We are tempted to think that his choice changed his life. But it’s not so easy. Valjean’s choice wasn’t a one-time choice; it was a choice he had to choose to make every day.
