Choco Carr, the 107-lb. African spurred (sulcata) tortoise, was brought to our Zoo Med service from Kentwood, La., after impaling itself on a metal post and receiving a deep soft tissue wound under the shell near the right hind limb. The infected wound is being treated with topical wound care, antibiotics, nutritional support, calcium supplementation, pain and anti-inflammatory management, daily outdoor walks, supervised grazing, and hyperbaric chamber therapy.
