It is very unusual behavior for grizzlies to put themselves in that situation and usually, but not always, occurs if the grizzly is used to finding food there. If it's a young griz or 2, or a lone griz and you suddenly yell, it is likely going to run off.

Apr 1, 2014 · Lots of grizzlies around, and we couldn't help but notice all the scat and tracks. Its fairly common to see this in the Yellowstone backcountry, but it started getting excessive. We camped at backcountry campsite 3M2, which I think is the creepiest campsite I've stayed at (on par with a few along the Yellowstone River in the Thorofare).

Nov 23, 2015 · There’s something special about hiking in a place where the earth burps (fumaroles), and you have to yell while you hike, to alert grizzlies, and you round a corner and there’s a 200 foot waterfall, and well, I guess there’s just a romance to being in Yellowstone. Stay 100 yards (91 m) away from black and grizzly bears. Approaching bears within 100 yards is prohibited. Use binoculars, a telescope or telephoto lens to get a closer look.

Dec 11, 2015 · Inside the cavity was a stash of whitebark pine cones, a staple food source for grizzlies. This squirrel had found a relatively safe hiding spot from marauding grizzlies. The midden pile torn up by a grizzly. These middens can contain thousands of cones. A wider view of the site. The midden is thrashed and even some whitebark saplings took a hit.

Jan 23, 2014 · Already a few grizzlies have been known to occur again in this area. But even with this there are obstacles to overcome. One obstacle is Interstate 15 which runs north and south from Eastern Idaho to Southwestern Montana. But the population is expanding. I have known of Grizzlies to occur in the Cache Creek Area nearby Jackson to the SE.

Aug 6, 2018 · Alice Lake, Cramer Lakes, Hellroaring Lake and Imogene Lakes all had quite a few people camping a them. The first night I camped above the upper Cramer Lake and no one was withing a half mile of my camp. Most the campers were all at Middle Cramer Lake. The second night I camped a at Imogene Lake and had to camp close to other campers.

Dec 23, 2013 · At around eight in the evening, Quin showed up to join our merry band of scallywags, and you'll never guess what he saw on the way in. That's right a grizzly bear - just above our previous night's campsite! No bear sighting for the rest of us though. I thought that 8B2 was a much better campsite than our previous night's 8C6.
