Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass issued a curfew for parts of downtown as anti-ICE demonstrations continued for a fifth consecutive day, some of which have turned violent between protesters and law enforcement.

Some protesters threw pieces of broken concrete at the officers, who responded by firing tear gas and pepper spray.

Newsom called the move an “illegal act” and vowed, in an interview on MSNBC Sunday night, to file a lawsuit “very early” today.

Newsom said he would sue the administration, a promise on which the state followed through a day later.

“We’re at an inflection point in the country’s history,” said South Carolina state Rep. JA Moore, a lawmaker who has been deeply involved in his state’s early presidential primary politics.

The escalating conflict between Trump and the Democratic governor centers on immigration protests that shook Los Angeles over the weekend.
