Seattle Mariners star Cal Raleigh became the first catcher to win the event in its four decades of existence on Monday, edging Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Junior Caminero in the final, 18 to 15. Caminero would've been the youngest Derby champion ever at 22 years old.
Nationals outfielder James Wood can add “pummeled 486-foot homer in the T-Mobile Home Run Derby” to his blossoming Major League resume. Wood, 22, made his Derby debut on Monday night at Truist Park. He hit 16 home runs in the first round,
Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez was crowned 2024 Home Run Derby champion after defeating Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. in the finals. Hernandez slugged 14 homers in the final round, one more than Witt, to become the first Dodgers player to win the Derby title.
At +300, Raleigh is the favorite to win the 2025 HR derby, but Washington’s James Wood (+425) should also be a top contender, as he is truly delivering an impressive breakthrough season. Matt Olson (+800), who is replacing Acuna, will naturally be the favorite for the home crowd. Junior Caminero is a very tempting longshot, too, at +1200.
