Maryland basketball star Derik Queen commented on a video released by Villanova, now featuring his former head coach Kevin Willard.
ESPN broadcaster Scott Van Pelt torched Kevin Willard for how he left the Maryland Terrapins men's basketball program to take the Villanova Wildcats' job.
“All I’m going to say is that Maryland just got a great coach in Buzz [Williams],” Willard said at the same time Williams was being introduced at a live press conference on campus. “I’m really happy for them, and I’m super excited to be in a great basketball conference here [in the Big East]. And I just think it’s time that everyone moved on.”
When Kevin Willard left Maryland, the worry was that he was going to take some Terrapins with him. So far, nobody has followed Willard to the 'Cats, but Maryland has lost almost its entire roster to this point to either graduation or the transfer portal.
ESPN's Scott Van Pelt shared his thoughts about the way Kevin Willard left Maryland for Villanova. He didn't hold back.
A disorderly ending for Willard in College Park sends him back to the Big East, where he previously coached at Seton Hall
Maryland is hiring Texas A&M coach Buzz Williams to succeed Kevin Willard, the school announced Tuesday. The Aggies coach will take over a program without a sitting athletic director after Maryland AD Damon Evans left for the same job at SMU last month.
Willard, the former Seton Hall coach, was booed at his send-off ahead of the Florida Sweet 16 game as Maryland fans became increasingly irritated with his recent comments and the perception that he was dissing the school in the middle of the NCAA Tournament.
Maryland has reached an agreement with Buzz Williams to make him the new men's basketball coach, according to CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein. Pete Thamel of ESPN reported the sides finalized a six-year contract.
