This week it's the Chinese Grande Prix, and it's Oscar Piastri, Norris' teammate at McLaren – on the pole for the first time in his F1 career.

In 2021, F1 drivers received three points for winning the sprint, two for finishing second, and one for coming in third. As this offered little to no incentive to put cars on the line for drivers in the midfield, this was altered in 2022 to the rewards system, which remains in place this year.

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri has scored his maiden pole position in Formula 1 ahead of Sunday’s Chinese Grand Prix by delivering two sizzling laps that were quick enough for the top spot ahead of Mercedes’ George Russell.

Mercedes protégé Doriane Pin claimed the early advantage in F1 Academy after winning the first main race of the season in China. Pin overhauled Ferrari junior Maya Weug at the rolling start and controlled proceedings, opening a five-point buffer over her rival.
