Nearly 630,000 Fortnite players were reportedly “tricked” into making purchases through the game and will receive a refund. According to a press release, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has reportedly accused Fortnite developer Epic Games of leading gamers to make “unwanted purchases” by carrying out tactics through its game button configuration.

Epic admitted its mistakes and agreed to pay a $275 million penalty for violating the COPPA rule (the largest penalty ever levied) as well as $245 million to refund consumers affected by Fortnite's "dark patterns and billing practices" (the largest refund amount ever in a videogame matter).

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has mandated Epic Games, the creator of Fortnite, to pay a record-breaking £192.19 million ($245 million) in a settlement over allegations of deceptive billing practices.

Fortnite players may soon receive more than $72 million in refunds after the Federal Trade Commission discovered the video game’s maker, Epic Games, had “tricked” customers into unwanted purchases.

A settlement with Epic Games was first announced two years ago after the FTC alleged that players of all ages lost money to unwanted purchases.
