President Donald Trump said alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the United States would “own” the Gaza Strip in the aftermath of the Israel-Hamas war. “The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip and do a job with it too.

Already, the fragile deal has come under considerable stress, and it could collapse in the weeks to come. Yet for the time being, the fighting has stopped in both Gaza and Lebanon, and hostages have begun to come home.

The comments came after Trump earlier suggested that displaced Palestinians in Gaza be “permanently” resettled outside the war-torn territory.
