DC's "Superman" previously held the record for highest box office sales in Thursday night previews for 2025, with $22.5 million. Now, Marvel is reporting "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" sped past that figure, earning $24.4 million in Thursday previews.

Marvel's had a rough 2025 at the box office, but The Fantastic Four: First Steps should be the rebound it desperately needed.

Basically, there are two paths here for Superman. Either it will continue to do well, and eventually soar beyond $800 million, making it not only as successful as Batman v Superman, but also on par with James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy 2, which earned $863 million worldwide in 2017. Or, Superman's box office returns will start to plateau.
