On Tuesday, October 28, word spread like wildfire that Amazon was initiating a huge number of layoffs. While Amazon's Senior Vice President of People, Experience and Technology Beth Galetti said the decision would impact roughly 14,000 employees, insiders told national news outlets that number could be more than doubled.
Amazon's Connecticut footprint already includes six fulfillment and sorting centers, 10 delivery stations, 13 Whole Foods Market locations, and seven on-site solar energy locations. Other facilities are located in Cromwell, North Haven, Wallingford, and Windsor.
Amazon Web Services, a major provider of cloud services for companies, said most services were back up after an issue caused outages at many websites.

The company said that while the issue has been resolved, some services may experience a backlog of messages while it works to process them over the next few hours.
An unprecedented Amazon Web Services outage that caused nearly 150 major sites and apps – including Snapchat, Venmo and Roblox – to go dark was apparently caused by a common tech glitch. The 15-hour outage appeared to be caused by an “underlying DNS issue,” Amazon Web Services said in a status tracker on its website.
