The Tigers did not fare well on their first road trip, falling at No. 4 Duke, 84-78, on Dec. 4 in the ACC-SEC Challenge. Although Texas is not ranked heading into the game, head coach Bruce Pearl believes that Tuesday’s game at Moody Center in Austin could provide Auburn with more of a challenge than the one it faced at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Johni Broome had 20 points and 12 rebounds as No. 2 Auburn withstood a late Texas rally for an 87-82 victory to give coach Bruce Pearl the school record for career wins.

Auburn was led to victory by Johni Broome and Miles Kelly. Broome had 20 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, three blocks and two steals. Kelly had 18 points and shot 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Three other Tigers put up double-figures: Baker-Mazara had 16 points and Denver Jones and Tahaad Pettiford each added 10.

Texas. The win was the 214th for Tigers coach Bruce Pearl, propelling him to No. 1 in all-time coaching wins at the school. He had been tied with Joel Eaves (1949-63). Broome's double-double was the 70th of his career - and his 10th this season.
