Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Max Scherzer has said he hopes to be able to play catch in the next few days following a cortisone injection to treat his sore right thumb.

The Toronto Blue Jays placed right-hander Max Scherzer on the injured list on Sunday, a day after he made his forgettable team debut. The future Hall of Famer surrendered two solo home runs in three innings against the Baltimore Orioles before being removed with what the team initially called right lat soreness.

The pain of a cortisone injection to his ailing thumb isn't what has Max Scherzer hurting. "It doesn't feel good," he said of the injection, "but you'll take any pain to get out there. The pain's not the problem.
