The Detroit Tigers are scheduled to resume regular season play tonight at 8:05 p.m. ET against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field in Alrington, Texas, carrying with them the best record in Major League Baseball.

Skubal is one of four MLB players nominated in the " Best MLB Player " category at the 2025 ESPY Awards, ESPN's annual awards show. First baseman Freddie Freeman and designated hitter Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers and outfielder Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees join Skubal as nominees.

Skubal, who beat the Rangers in Detroit in May, is 10-3 and is third in the majors in ERA (2.23), second in strikeouts per nine innings (11.38) and sixth in innings pitched (122). He was the AL starter for Tuesday’s All-Star Game.

The Detroit Tigers will enter the second half of the MLB season with the best record in baseball at 59–38. Their success earned them six All-Star selections—Tarik Skubal, Casey Mize, Riley Greene, Javier Baez, Gleyber Torres and Zach McKinstry.

Tarik Skubal pitched just one inning in Tuesday’s All-Star Game, so the Detroit Tigers had plenty of options to schedule his next start.
