A man thought to be a citizen of Bangladesh was arrested in India's financial capital Mumbai on Sunday and is considered the prime suspect in the stabbing of Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan, police said.

A Bangladeshi national illegally entered India, targeted Saif Ali Khan's residence, and launched an attack. The suspect, struggling financially, sought substantial money and armed himself with tools.

Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad's lawyer, Advocate Sandeep Shekhane, has disputed police claims that Shehzad is a Bangladeshi national. Shekhane argued that there is no evidence to support these allegations and emphasized that his client has been living in Mumbai for over seven years.
