Russian President Vladimir Putin and French President Emmanuel Macron have spoken in a phone call for the first time in three years.

It was the two leaders’ first call since 2022, and the Russian president’s first with any major European leader since last year.

The Elysée said that Emmanuel Macron stressed France's 'support for Ukraine's sovereignty,' and called for a ceasefire. According to the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin urged 'a solid and lasting settlement of the conflict.
