A British junior minister was sacked by Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Saturday and suspended from the governing Labour Party over WhatsApp messages which the minister said were "badly misjudged".

Mr Gwynne posted messages in a WhatsApp group called Trigger Me Timbers, which included more than a dozen Labour councillors, party officials and at least one other MP, the Mail on Sunday reported. The newspaper said his comments included antisemitic slights and a joke about a constituent being “mown down” by a truck.

Health minister Andrew Gwynne has been sacked after making offensive remarks in a Labour Party WhatsApp group. According to reports in the Mail on Sunday, Gwynne joked about an elderly voter, saying he hoped she would die.
