Fourteen tornadoes tore across Mississippi on the night of May 6, 2026, two of them powerful EF3 twisters that carved long, destructive paths through central and southern parts of the state while most residents were asleep.

Storm chaser Ashton Lemley was helping look through the rubble of a Mississippi trailer park in Bogue Chitto, Lincoln County, which had been ravaged by multiple tornadoes, when he heard a young feline crying out for help.
