Iran's Mehr News agency on Monday (June 8) reported that several explosions were heard in capital Tehran as well as in cities of Tabriz, Karaj and Isfahan. Soon after, the Israel Defense Forces said that it has struck military targets in the western and central region of Iran.
Israeli authorities described the shootings as a terrorist attack. Hamas, the Palestinian militant group, praised the assault, but did not claim responsibility.
Pakistan, Qatar, Turkey and Egypt, have been working to help bridge differences between the U.S. and Iran and encourage efforts aimed at reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
