The Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed a deputy’s line-of-duty death Saturday afternoon.Deputy Elijah Ming, 34, was shot and killed on July 26, 2025, while responding to a domestic incident.

A memorial honoring Ming has grown outside the Wyandotte County Courthouse, where people have been placing flowers and paying tribute throughout the day. Mourners include friends, family, fellow law enforcement officers and community members who say Ming's life left a lasting impact, even on those who never met him.

On Monday, Marc Blackim, the General Manager and Co-Owner of the Hutchinson Monarchs, remembered Ming as a fantastic teammate who kept everyone motivated and was a vital part of the team.
