President Trump’s auto tariffs won’t just make buying a car more expensive. They would make simply owning a car more expensive, too. Levies on imported vehicles stand at 25%, and tariffs of the same size are planned for auto parts in early May.

March 26, 2025: President Trump today announced a 25-percent tariff on all cars and trucks imported to the U.S. as well as all imported auto parts and components. The tariffs are expected to increase the cost of an imported car, truck, SUV by up to $6,000, according to Cox Automotive. Read more here >>

Something major always seems to happen while he is deployed (the transmission dies, a tornado hits the house, we have a family emergency), so having the additional funds on hand would also be nice. We are concerned about how the tariffs on cars will have affected the prices of used vehicles by the time he returns.
