Officials say the school-aged child was not vaccinated and was hospitalized in Lubbock last week after testing positive for measles. This is the first death in the U.S. caused by measles since 2015, according to the CDC.

Measles cases are popping up around the country and causing concern. So far, there’s one confirmed death. According to the Texas Department of Health — where the child died — 124 cases of measles have been confirmed this year alone.
