Shots rang out near the AMC River East 21 movie theater hitting the 46-year-old Connecticut tourist trying to cross the street with her 11-year-old son, police said.

A Connecticut woman visiting Chicago was shot and wounded on the sidewalk in the Streeterville neighborhood on Sunday night.

Witnesses dining at a nearby restaurant told NBC Chicago they heard gunshots, which led to diners hitting the deck inside, with a large police presence outside.

"It's been shocking," the woman told the Sun-Times in a brief interview as she headed to the airport Monday morning with her 11-year-old son. "I'm nervous."
