Since the tsunami hit beaches in Los Angeles and Orange counties around 2 a.m., police in several coastal cities reported no activity or calls for service to the water. Weather experts warned that fluctuations in the tide could continue Wednesday.

A small swell gently rocking the boats in Marina del Rey on Wednesday morning was a welcome sight following a tsunami advisory issued in the wake of a massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake that struck off the coast of Russia hours earlier.

An 8.8 magnitude earthquake has sent tsunami waves across the Pacific. Waves are expected to hit Southern California around 1 a.m. Wednesday.
