President-elect Donald Trump’s recent “Meet the Press” interview has triggered concerns among allies and critics about his level of awareness of the details of the sprawling investigation into the Capitol attack that has produced hundreds of convictions in the nearly four years since Jan.

Philip Sean Grillo, who was sentenced Friday to 12 months in prison for his role in the riot, said “Trump’s gonna pardon me anyways” as U.S. Marshals took him into custody. Grillo, The Hill wrote, was found guilty of the felony charge of obstruction of an official proceeding, as well as some misdemeanors.

While defendants may sneer and defense lawyers may preen, the nearly 1,600 cases have produced a record that will endure.

The president-elect’s pending return to the White House has left judges and prosecutors grappling with how to proceed in pending cases that Trump may wipe away with a stroke of a pen after his inauguration.
