Cabinet expansion in Maharashtra sees 39 ministers sworn in, with BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP securing ministerial berths.

The 10-day-old Maharashtra government was expanded on Sunday — with 39 MLAs from the ruling coalition taking oath in Nagpur. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also indicated that portfolio allocations would be announced within the next few days.

The Maharashtra government expanded with 39 lawmakers taking oath, allocating 19 berths to BJP, 11 to Shiv Sena, and 9 to NCP. Four women MLAs, including two as Cabinet Ministers, were appointed. The expansion follows criticism for delays in announcing the Cabinet after the December 5 swearing-in.

While nine MLAs from the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) took oath, 11 MLAs from the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena were inducted into the cabinet and 19 MLAs from the BJP took oath as cabinet ministers.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that cabinet portfolios will be assigned within two days. New ministers, including BJP and NCP leaders, were sworn in following the BJP-led alliance's election victory.

The expansion of the Mahayuti cabinet was delayed owing to the tussle between the BJP and the Shiv Sena over distribution of the key departments.
