Indiana wants to be the first state in the nation to exclude candy and soft drinks from SNAP benefits, taking the Trump administration up on an offer to cut sugar-sweetened drinks from the federal food aid program.

Arkansas and Indiana on Tuesday became the first states to ask the U.S. Department of Agriculture to allow them to ban soda and candy from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as food stamps.
