Uganda’s army denies abducting Bobi Wine amid disputed election
National Unity Platform said opposition presidential candidate was seized from his home following the presidential vote.
Ugandan opposition figure and musician-turned-politician Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has alleged that ballot papers were pre-ticked in favour of President Yoweri Museveni at a secret polling station in western Uganda.
The National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential flag bearer, Mr Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, has released a video saying he is in hiding after he escaped as the security personnel descended on his home on Friday night. In a video that the Monitor has received, Bobi Wine said he recorded himself at 9am on Saturday from an undisclosed place.
Elsewhere in central Uganda, reports of lethal force against opposition affiliates emerged. Muwanga Kivumbi, a member of parliament from Wine’s party representing the Butambala area, told AFP’s Nairobi office by phone that security forces had killed 10 of his campaign agents after storming his home.
